WHY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH THINKS THE WAY IT DOES

JULY 7-9, 2017

On June 17, 2016, the Government of Canada passed into law Bill C-14, approving medically assisted dying.  The Catholic Church affirms and believes that the deliberate taking of a human life goes against the dignity of the human person and the belief that all human life is sacred. But why does the Catholic Church take this position?  How can the Church’s position be explained in a simple and straightforward way?  What is the difference between medically assisted dying and euthanasia?  What response does the Church provide for those contemplating – either for themselves or for a loved one- medically assisted death?

This workshop is for anyone, Catholic or not, who is seeking deeper answers to the issue of medically assisted dying, which is now part of the fabric of Canadian life and Canadian health-care services.  Whether you are a pastoral worker, parish volunteer, health-care professional, teacher, or are simply wondering what medically assisted dying means from a Christian faith-based perspective, this workshop is for you.
